We didn’t know what we didn’t know

We didn’t know what “perfection” was till we saw you

We didn’t know what “exhaustion” was till we experienced the sleepless nights, living life in a blur

We didn’t know what “fear” meant till we saw blood on your bruised knee for the first time

We didn’t know what “joy” was till we held you in our arms

We didn’t know what “messy” was till we saw you standing proud in front of your artwork covered in all kinds of paint

We didn’t know what “sorrow” was till we lost a piece of our heart all too soon

We didn’t know the “strength” we had till our rainbow came about, and we stood up once again

We didn’t know “bliss” till we saw you look at your little brother for the first time and he looked back at you and smiled

We didn’t know what “noisy” was till we heard both you play with each other, or was it a quarrel, or was it just laughing together?

We didn’t know why we were blessed with a girl and a boy, but now we know that there was no other way we could ever know what “love” really is.
