The questions I dread

We’ve been dodging the morning news on the TV for a while now. News was a time we enjoyed watching as a family. My little one jumped with joy every time the weather segment was on there was a sense of empowerment in him do you know how his day at school would go would it be an outdoor day where the sun is shining and his little friends can be out of their classrooms exploring nature? Oh would it be a rainy one where he’d get to watch a movie in class rather than play a sport?

Earlier this month as images of flying rockets part of the news began to splash across the screen no one in my home knew how that would affect our daily family routine over the day since? We often steered the kids away from the screen by suddenly remembering a great new game to make it less awkward my husband and I soon switch to catching up on the news in our bedroom all on other personal devices.

Over the days we have struggled to answer some of the natural questions that kids have asked as glimpses of people running around mothers holding crying and wounded babies ravaged buildings and more rocket bombing have crossed the rise. We have talked about war and how innocent people are running to safety we have of course not been able to answer the Y why if there is any.

I have often wondered if the children who are suffering because of the war have asked these questions do they dare pause and ask why this is happening to them will they ever understand what happened to the home that sister or brother or parent who will never see you again? Do they ever think of their friends with whom they could be playing in school instead of running for their lives do they know where they’re heading will they ever have school or education again will they ever have a place to call home again?

I dread the questions in my own mind as I see more of what’s happening in the world I feel fortunate and guilty that I have an option to turn off the news when I want to I do hope and pray that more families have something left of what they call family after all of this is over I also hope that we as a family we can return to our little routine knowing there is still beauty in the world that we can all watch, learn, and enjoy together.
